Purple Charlotte Steppers

Artist-in-Residence Series

Featuring Drewry Alexander, “The Phenom”

Dance does not stand still. It evolves, it adapts, and the people shaping it help the entire community level up. This season, Purple Charlotte Steppers is proud to welcome Drewry Alexander, also known as “The Phenom,” as our next Artist-in-Residence.

Drew has been at the forefront of Chicago Steppin’s evolution, known for pushing the dance forward with fresh concepts that still honor the foundation. In that spirit, he has coined a unique counting method that we will introduce to the Charlotte stepping community through a focused, progressive 5-class series.

If you want more ways to express yourself in the dance, build confidence in your movement, and expand what you can do on the floor, this residency is for you.

What You Will Learn

This residency is designed to add real tools to your dance repertoire, not just give you another Tuesday night workout.

You will walk away with:

  • A clear understanding of Drew’s distinct counting method and how to apply it

  • New pathways for timing, phrasing, and musical interpretation

  • Practical drills you can repeat to strengthen execution

  • Fresh options for styling and expression within the dance

  • A stronger connection to the community through shared learning and growth

Why This Residency Matters

Having alternate ways to express yourself within the dance expands your repertoire, strengthens confidence, and bolsters the community overall. The more tools we share, the more we raise the standard together.
